Review: The Punisher Season 1 Episode 2 “Two Dead Men”

With a far better pace than the preceding episode, ‘The Punisher’ may still feel derivative of other similar shows that focus around a government conspiracy related to war-time efforts, but Jon Bernthal’s brooding, emotional, deep performance keeps focus. Frank Castle is defined by his tragic circumstances, often to a fault as the show holds the character singularly to this beat, but with strong writing his quest to seek out information about his family’s deaths develops excellently, meeting solid and similarly themed new characters along the way. The action is also superbly directed, and the director finds a good balance between the electric, brutal nature of Castle’s force and the deeper emotional intensity fuelling it. 8/10
