Review: Narcos Season 3 Episode 9 “Todos Los Hombres del Presidente”

Finally, ‘Narcos’ puts its foot down, not simply in terms of action or with intense, pulsating confrontations, but also in terms of its larger thematic stance. It certainly feels like the set up was necessary even if the show’s structural problems often made the more significant moments feel like teases rather than clues or stepping stones. But the reveal at the end of the episode showcases the pure reality of crime and justice. That regardless of ones’ effort, there will always be more wars to win, more corruption and bureaucracy guarding the final sprint. Pena is solidified in this episode as less of a front line man, and more of a middle ground between those in the action and the men making the decisions, often in secret. It works well when in full understanding of what the show intended to highlight, even if again the ‘in the moment’ aspects fell short of being compelling. 9/10
