Review: The Defenders Season 1 Episode 7 “Fish in the Jailhouse”

A central strain to this series so far has been its pace, initially slow and meandering, which is still present here, but also hurried and forceful in pushing the team across different states. This episode buckles under that weight as the large cast steals the spotlight and the four protagonists simply follow along. They make their own choices, but their development doesn’t feel as substantial as one would expect. Furthermore, the action sequence that ended the episode should have been the show’s biggest moment yet, but instead it feels flat and dull, with nothing prominent or extraordinary occurring, and just repetitive brawling. With one episode to go, it is clear the show has missed nearly every major opportunity it has been given. 5.7/10
