Review: Ozark Season 1 Episode 5 “Ruling Days”

Beyond the FBI officer’s completely absurd storyline, that is contrived and fails at being suspenseful or adding anything to the character, this episode provides a sinister, foreboding tone as the Ozark lakes further become a serious element of this show. The atmosphere and aspects of set-up certainly topple narrative priority with the pace dramatically slowing down in some areas, while in others the writers continue to make massive jumps. Regardless, the show’s commentary about human society’s inherent corruption and inability to remain peaceful and hopeful is significant, statements that help to overcome some more familiar or generic archetypes and clichés. 7.8/10
