Review: Orange Is The New Black Season 5 Episode 1 “Riot FOMO”

Litchfield Prison’s diverse set of inmates is superbly emphasised throughout this episode, as the audience is highlighted how each inmate deals with the ensuing riots, what is most important to them, and their personal perspective on the moral issues delivered to them. One of the most interesting elements of this is the notion of repercussions, with many characters faced with dealing with the consequences of their actions in a varied manner of ways, compelling and often tense for the audience. However, despite the intentions of the writers, the episode still comes off as overstuff and disjointed. There is a chaotic tone that reflects the inmates decision’s and situation but it also dulls much of the tension and necessity of interactions. 8.3/10
