Review: Fear The Walking Dead Season 3 Episode 2 “The New Frontier”

While the deviations to Strand’s storylines were necessary in keeping that character relevant, they did break up the flow and often emotional aspects at the core of this episode. His narrative was also incredibly quickly developed and though the ending does promise his style of action will continue, I hope he is quickly reintegrated into the main narrative. Speaking of which, the central narrative may suffer from some formulaic elements like one centre location and a charismatic but secretive leader, but the new characters continue to shine and the performances that ground them are sensational. Madison may a little too forceful, but seeing her dynamic in play with that of Nick’s was an excellent insight into the two characters. This level of quality is a massive shift for this show, something I hope will continue as long as the show retains a narrative focus. 8.6/10
