Review: Baywatch

Source: ComingSoon

‘Baywatch’ works when it provides a stylised, self-referential parody of itself, with its beautifully shot slow-mos, underwater sequences and over-the-top drama. However, there is little of that here, with the film instead utilising juvenile humour that gets boring very quickly and a formulaic narrative that is neither interesting nor worthy of its talented cast’s time. The visual effects are horrendous and the writing jumps between simply lame to something you would see a twelve year old comment on Facebook. The characters fit their stereotypical, cliched roles without any larger commentary beyond superficial, incomplete murmurings. Essentially, ‘Baywatch’ is a film that can play in the background of a summer BBQ, one that has its moments but really is only made for a quick buck. 2/5
