Review: Master of None Season 2 Episode 5 “The Dinner Party”

This was certainly the most serialised episode of the show so far, split between differing thematic statements and without a clear focus. For the most part it still works, but I would have rather seen the episode continue with the excellent discussion of American television culture and fandom it began with, then turn more into a will-they-won’t-they romance that I feel this show has somewhat covered before. It is cleverly timed to come after the last episode of dating, adding more to Dev’s as a character and progressing him within the narrative, but for a show so that promotes its themes so strongly, this episode just lacked that same detailed vision. 8.2/10
