Review: Master of None Season 2 Episode 1 “The Thief”

It is an odd decision to take this show outside of America considering the heavily influence American culture had upon it’s narrative and thematic idea. However, ‘Master of None’, in Italy, still retains its spark and wit thanks to a brilliant performance from Aziz Ansari. It might not be filled with laughs, but this episode still presented a strong central message¬†regarding language, discussion the colloquialism differing cultures share, but how each have their own individual interpretations and meanings. It is an interesting idea and grounds the show in its cultural approach to stereotype and pop-culture. Furthermore, its cinematography and black and white colour grading, emphasising the human condition, breaks the show a part from other comedies, making it both an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience. 8.9/10
