Review: The Fate of the Furious

Fast and Furious is what it is and this eighth entry gets that and pushes it even further. F. Gary Gray delivers a bombastic, over the top experience of contrived mayhem and pointless plot twists. It’s intellectually lacking and certainly not original in its scope, but the action is tantalising, the set pieces beautifully shot, and the Easter eggs endless. While the central narrative relies on an emotional core Vin Diesel cannot emphasise in his performance and the writing never gives his character the time to truly react or inform, the predictable long-term results are pleasantly balanced with a quick pace and witty humour. 4/5
