Review: The Path Season 2 Episode 13 “Mercy”

Comparing the leadership, charisma and actions of Eddie and Cal, the director has emphasised the point that Meyerism lacks a steady, strong direction, pulled and prodded between two conflicting views. It’s a contest that has been building up for the last season and unfortunately this episode does little to provide a climax but rather create a moment of harmony, albeit one held together with the flimsiest of tape. It does feel rather unspectacular and for all the narrative focussed on Sarah’s criminality, its disappointing to not see any of the main protagonists fall. Next season will certainly be interesting, but I am fearful all we will see is another cycle of repetitive power plays and Sarah jumping between men. ‘The Path’ could surprise me, as Season 2 was miles ahead of the premiere season, but I was expecting a lot more from this finale. It didn’t have to end in tragedy, but it would have been nice to have seen a more definitive resolution. 7.5/10
