Review: Grace and Frankie Season 3 Episode 4 “The Burglary”

Watching this episode, it was very clear the immense and genuine care I have for these characters. Unlike other episodes dominated by either the overwhelming feeling of optimism or heart-warming respect, this entry focussed on elements of vulnerability and fear in the character’s lives. While Grace faced it head on, not taking much notice for most of the episode, Frankie was obviously scared and dependent. When capturing Frankie, the writers have to be careful not to make her behaviour too juvenile, as while she certainly needs the support and care, we have seen her face great adversity and succeeded. This episode does make her slightly too reliant and some her actions are a little silly, but the development it presents her relationships with Grace is impressive, as is her use of her art skills. Robert and Sol’s storyline however, didn’t have the some sort of resonance, too underdeveloped and rushed to really present a complex discussion of being ‘inned’ as Robert states. Both storylines promise future debate in the coming episodes, so it will be interesting to see how the writers keep the flow going and what the consequences will be. 8.3/10
