Review: American Crime Season 3 Episode 2 “Episode 2”

Similarly to the premiere episode, ‘Episode 2’ begins strong but quickly slows down, proving that a stronger, bolder central narrative is needed to pull together the many different strands. While I really like the way John Ridley reflects the exploitation found on the streets within the way witnesses and those within organisations are treated, crafting dialogue to represent the restriction, control and administrative perspective, there needs to be greater links than just in the themes. This will obviously be worked up towards, but still some of the individual stories feel weaker than the overall argument. Luckily, the performances are brilliant, especially from Felicity Huffman, Regina King and Sandra Oh, and the unique look at the American farming and immigration culture is intriguing. 8/10
