Review: Black Mirror Season 3 Episode 5 “Men Against Fire”

Following a very typical story structure for ‘Black Mirror’, holding onto its secrets and only revealing them at a convenient time to maximise the emotional impact, this episode however, unfortunately is unable to produce the same emotional resonance or connection due to the underdevelopment of its main characters. The characters are never provided with anything other than the general characteristics they need to move the narrative forward, and while these are great foundations, ultimately this episodes evolves more as a message on the future of warfare than on how that future will impact those within it. The direction though is very good, especially in capturing the tension and claustrophobia of the close-quarter fight sequences, while the visual effects reinforce this terror, and its associated main message. 7.6/10
