Verdict: Designated Survivor Season 1 Episode 4 “The Enemy”

Examining the concept of power against a backdrop of escalating tension, ‘Designated Survivor’ provides a clear path for its titular character, as Kirkman is given some great development that goes against audience (and other character’s) expectations of him, but are still reasonable shifts within the narrative. The crises in this episode are also bold and match the extremity of the show’s main premise, with the secondary antagonists creating enough intrigue to make up for some rather formulaic structure aspects. While the First Lady’s plot does give her something to do, I hope the show continues to keep it connected to her new role and not isolateĀ her from the main plot. This show has a lot of moving pieces, and so far it is doing a fine job at maintaining them at a steady pace. 9.1/10
