Verdict: Luke Cage Season 1 Episode 7 “Manifest”

Filled with powerful performances (including a groundbreaking one by Alfre Woodard), Luke Cage turns it up a notch with a number of twists and reveals that will have major implications for the rest of the season. In most cases these felt earned, a worthy climax to characters ascensions and downfalls, yet still unpredictable and directed marvellously. The flashbacks also worked in this episode, as the writing clearly highlighted the themes of legacy, family and business while fleshing out Cottonmouth and Mariah’s relationship. However, Luke Cage himself is still trying to escape his past and deciding who he wants to be, characters themes that have now been overdone and are becoming tedious, while some aspects of the police storyline feel glossed over. 9.3/10
