Verdict: Luke Cage Season 1 Episode 2 “Code of the Streets”

‘Luke Cage’ does a great job at highlighting to the audience what is at stake for each character and their individual arcs. Whether that be Mariah’s political aspirations, Cottonmouth’s want for power and control or Cage trying to escape his past, the tension is high and all characters are well-defined. The main action sequence in this episode emphasises this point, as these three characters are all influenced by the attack and what it says about the ideas of black unity and loyalty within Harlem. However, again the exposition is often too forced and some sequences lack a flow, becoming clunky and over long. 8.6/10
