Verdict: Fear The Walking Dead Season 2 Episode 8 “Grotesque”

‘The Walking Dead’ as franchise succeeds when its presents a narrative that balances scope with intimacy and character. While there is certainly a need to provide a scale of destruction, this world building often distracts from focussing upon the people trying to survive within that world. This episode, however, perfectly balances the two, through writing that offers a well realised commentary on survival and death interspersed with meaningful flashbacks that provide¬†important development to Nick (who is performed brilliantly by Frank Dillane) and his motivations. The audience is alerted to the beautiful but deadly environment Nick finds himself in through stunning direction and cinematography, while the threat of walkers and humans are showcased as only one of the world’s dangers. 9.3/10
