Review: Stranger Things Season 1 Episode 2 “Chapter Two: The Weirdo on Maple Street”

Stranger Things continues to excel in recreating the atmosphere of the 80s with a number of strong references and a brilliant suspenseful tone that makes the actions of each character all the more worrying, however, even though Eleven has an intriguing back-story/mythology and the directors do well to make her abilities seem grounded and not overly dramatic, she does stick out as an E.T rip-off, past the point of homage with an arc similar to that famous character, which certainly isn’t helped by poor pacing and the show’s repetitive nature as some imagery and ominous events begin to become too tiresome and predictable and I am not sure if Winona Ryder is simply giving a poor performance or if the writers don’t know what to do with her character. 6.9/10
