Review: Orange is the New Black Season 4 Episode 13 “Toast Can’t Never Be Bread Again”

This finale works as a perfect representation of the season as a whole, a beautifully directed, stunningly acted, brilliantly scored, unpredictable story that has a strong message and overall thematic statement, and though there are times it gets too slow and again rehashes old material, the final result is pretty special, with this episode providing a shocking ending (giving Daya the cliffhanger was odd, though it did keep in touch with the show’s attempt at realism), bringing all the characters together against the prison system, emphasising the seasons theme of civil rights and liberty, with touching flashbacks to Poussey, that clearly¬†highlight that while the series works best when the women have a common enemy, there are still many individual stories to be told. 9.7/10
